V.P. Debate Thoughts
I just got finished watching the VP debates, and I found that my predictions were true. While Edwards is a consumate lawyer and heartfelt, thoughtful speaker, I didn't expect him to blow Cheney away. He may be able to fight in a court room, but debates on international and domestic policies is quite a different story.
Being the Democrat that I am, I will even admit that Cheney did a decent job... not surprising and not the retaliatory punch that was needed from last Thursday, but he still did a good job. He knew most of his "facts" and spoke very well.
I was dissapointed when faced with the flip-flop question. Instead of defending John Kerry and debunking the falacy of flip-flop, Edwards said nothing about Kerry and went on the attack on the Bush Cheney record. I can understand his need to be more aggressive and a fighter (the usual VP candidate role), but some things need to be clearly and concisely explained.
I was very happy that Cheney's record was criticised by Edwards. How can Cheney bash Kerry on defense spending when those reductions were recommending by himself??? Why wouldn't you ban plastic guns? Why wouldn't you want Nelson Mandela released???
WHAT THE FUCK?!?!?
All in all... I truly do believe it was a draw. Both had some good punches and both took on a few blows.
There was one impression that I was left with after the debate. As Cheney proceeded to speak well and for the most part, hold his own, my view of Dubya just got worse and worse. Comparisons between Bush and Cheney are so obvious and quite scary.
Now you can see why Dubya needed Cheney to hold his hand during the 9/11 testimony!
