Woo-ooh!
Tomorrow begins the guys' weekend down in New Orleans! Damn... it's going to be a lot of fun. It's also the tail end of the New Orleans Jazz Festival. There aren't too many bands that we want to see... but it should still be a blast. Hopefully the rain showers doesn't cause a problem.
While we're going down there for Seth's "Bachelor Party" weekend, I'm not sure if things are going to be that crazy... well, crazy for New Orleans, but not the typical bachelor party antics at least. I think it's going to be more of a drunken weekend hanging out with the guys - but I guess we'll see what I have to say on Monday night when I get back.
My flight is at 6:45am tomorrow morning! So I definitely have to get to bed very soon. I'm the first to arrive in New Orleans at 12:45 - Sam and Bob at like 1:45 and then Seth an hour later. Hopefully all the flights work out alright (with all the bad weather and everything.)
We already have tickets to go see Keller Williams and Spearhead on Saturday (actually very early Sunday morning.) The show is at 2:00 am ... yes, I said A.M.!!!!! I hope we make it!
Anyway... that's about all to report for now.
More to report on Monday night (hopefully)... Photos too!
Next stop:
Nawlins!!!
Some designers in Berlin are trying to create an inventive solution to temporary housing within the city. "The endless flat tops of the the postwar high-rises in the city and suburbs are an undiscovered treasure of sunlit property."
Each loft is minimalistically stylish and very ingeniously designed. Space is cleverly utilized within each module. Dupont created materials were used to form movable walls within the loft. Additionally, furniture is afixed the walls and floos. And to top it off, a pool and sunbathing area can be built on top of the unit.
Very cool idea!
Hmmm... I wonder if they would blow away in a tornado or hurricane?

Damn, I want to go to Hawaii now!
Not Another Political Joke or a Republican Jab...
After reading my recent postings, I've noticed that I really haven't written much about what has been going on with me. Everything has been commentary on web findings and the frequent jabs at the (assinine) political right... I had to do it! If you were to ask Barbara what I've been up to, she'd probably say obsessing over the news and the desire to rid our country of our chimp-like "leader." While that may be true, I've been also pretty busy workwise with the development of our new centralized marketing program.
Work has become increasingly interesting (finally!) After working for Waterfield for over 3 years now (started in March of 2001) I've was starting to become rather stagnant and increasingly frustrated at my boredom and the monotony of day-to-day tasks... I am a robot... what advertising may I help you with... I am a robot... Luckily my company is large enough to have some use for me on a larger scale, but also small enough for my voice to be heard. As the project develops, my role will also change (which is very exciting.) Finally, I can do something more... I swear, if my job had stayed the way it was for the past few years - I would've pulled an "Office Space" and took it out on my $5000 printer! Now that would not have been good... especially since it works really well, never jams and would end up costing me a lot of money!
In other news: Seth, Bob, Sam, and I are going to New Orleans for a guys' bachelor weekend (for seth.) At this point, none of us have really spoken about what we're doing or where we're going or really planning anything yet (which is very unlike most of us.) We were first going to catch the New Orleans Jazz Festival, but there doesn't seem to be much that we're going to want to see. There doesn't seem to be that many great bands this year. Usually with trips we all have some plans and ideas... man we're slacking! We've just all been busy: Seth is busy planning a wedding. Sam is busy with work and is now in Hawaii (lucky bastard!) Bob is eternally busy with work and whatever (I'm surprised we were able to steel him away for a long weekend.) And I'm here, busy with work and day to day life - somehow I manage to keep out of trouble.
Ok, who am I kidding... I've been out of trouble for the past 10 years. I've grown to become an aging gen x'er who is finding that my twenties have zoomed by without much of a blip and now realizing that I'm almost 30.
How & when did that happen? I guess it could be worse... I could be bald or gray-haired... oh wait, I have started to count the grays...arrrrrrggggggghhhhhhh!!!!! Ok, so at least I'm not bald (knock on wood!)
So Jimmy and Hollie backed out of going to Rocky Point with us over July 4th. So I'm not sure what we're going to do now. We were thinking maybe going up to the Grand Canyon for a day or two, but I'm thinking that it may be a lil too late to try and do that, especially if we want to stay up there. No matter where we go, it's probably going to be crowded. In some ways I want to do something that weekend since it's a 3 day weekend... but at this point, I'm tired of even trying to plan anything. So we'll see what happnes.
We finally got the invite to Barbara's cousins wedding. She's already got almost all the plans taken care of for that one. The wedding is Saturday June 5th in Anaheim, CA. Barbara can't take more time off, so we're leaving on Saturday morning and renting a car. We're going directly to the ceremony which will be held at the Uncle's house and then the reception is going to be at a hotel. We got a room at the hotel for that night, and then we're leaving the late the next afternoon. It should be fun.
Speaking of roadtrips... we'll be doing the Vegas drive over Memorial Day weekend. It's not oneof my favorites (trips), but at least it's for a 3 day weekend and it's for Kadence's (Jimmy's nephew) christening. That drive is like 5-6 hours, but it's not that bad. Memorial Day weekend traffic is going to be horrendous... but oh well.
I just found out today that Eric's parents will be moving down to Tucson in late spring... That will be great! I'd love to go down there and see them. And now, at least Eric and Erin (and Aidan) have a reason to come out and visit!
Lets see... anything else new with me? Nope, not really... yes, I'm that exciting. Even with all the "traveling" that I/we'll be doing over the next few months, I'm still itching to go somewhere (further away) for a vacation trip. I'd love to go back to Europe or maybe even somewhere else, but I know it won't be happening anytime soon. :n( Oh well... I guess I'll just roast in Arizona's dry heat for a while.
Former Local Rock Musician Busted On ID Theft Charges
So I guess Queensryche isn't doing too well these days. It appears that Scott Moughton, the lead guitarist for Queensryche had been running an ID scam with 20-40 people delivering him mail every night. They would break into apartment locked mailboxes. He was said to like bank cards... of course he did.

As many already know, our beloved Howard stern is once again in trouble and seemingly off the air for allegedly indecent radio content. Real crack down on indecency or is it just a governement witchhunt? It's just a bunch crap... it's ridiculous! You know the FCC is just making an example out of Stern. Why is it that a few men in Washington can impose their will upon the rest of the country? I think I can make up my own mind - damnit! Hmmm... or could it possibly be the self-righteous conservative political base (and their influences) that seem to have "control" over this country... and I do use the word "control" very loosely.
You know it's got to be a big deal when even Don Imus (a big-time opponent to Howard Stern and major source of Stern's torment) is worried about the precedent this sets for the whole radio industry.
I used to listen to Stern, but quickly lost interest when my work schedule didn't allow me to listen on a daily basis. Some of his stuff is pretty lewd and sometimes crude, but turn it off if you don't like it. No one's forcing you to listen to it. Plain and simmple: you don't like what you're listening to... turn off the damn radio!
Here is a partial transcript of the show that "deserved" the $495,000 fine (TheSmokingGun.com.)
Screw you FCC!
This is awesome! This came from a Rig Manager for Global Marine Drilling in St. Johns, Newfoundland. They actually have to divert the path of these things away from the oil rigs by towing them with ships! In this particular case the water was calm & the sun was almost directly overhead so that the diver was able to get into the water and click this pic. Clear water huh?! They estimated the weight at 300,000,000 tons.
And now we also know why they say one picture is worth a 1000 words....
...ok, after a lot of skepticism and a little investigation (1 quick google search) I found that this photo is not real... it's not a real depiction of a real iceberg at least. The photographer used several photos superimposed on each other to come up with the final image.

frontline: the man who knew...
"For six years, John O'Neill was the FBI's leading expert on Al Queda. He warned of it's reach. He warned of its threat to the U.S. But to the people at FBI headquarters, O'Neill was too much of a maverick, and they stopped listening to him. He left the FBI in the summer of 2001 and took a new job as head of security at the World Trade Center."

Whoooooaaaa!

Three professional wrestlers working for the World Wrestling Entertainment are being sued for sexual harassment while on a May 2002 flight.
The Smoking Gun has posted the relevant court documents and the flight attendants' account of the incident.
While sexual harassment may not be funny, the idea of Rick Flair actually wearing those sequined and jeweled robes in public is pretty hilarious! You would want to think that some of these guys would be a little more normal outside of the WWE rings, but I guess it's hard to separate the two lives when acting plays such a large role in their jobs. Now, I'm not knocking professional wrestling, I love the stuff (Barbara can attest to that fact!) I admit, that I sit down every Monday and Thursday night to catch the major WWE weekly RAW and Smackdown! shows, but I even know that the stuff is all just a tv show... just a tv show! It's as fake as daytime soap operas, but it's entertainment... just entertainment!

Even
Stone Cold Steve Austin (another WWE wrestler) is in trouble for alledgedly roughing up his girlfriend. I guess the real lives of some of these guys really aren't that much different from their wrestling personas.
I've found my new favorite radio station!!!
You can
listen to it for free online!
"Air America Radio is a collaborative effort that brings together a group of experienced radio entrepreneurs with a talented team of creative artists. We are a new voice in talk radio: a smart voice with a sense of humor. It brings to the marketplace an unserved need. We give voice to what millions of Americans are thinking, but can't hear on radio. Until now..."

THREE WOMEN - ONE GERMAN, ONE JAPANESE AND A HILLBILLY - WERE SITTING NAKED IN A SAUNA. SUDDENLY THERE WAS A BEEPING SOUND.
THE GERMAN PRESSED HER FOREARM AND THE BEEP STOPPED.
THE OTHERS LOOKED AT HER QUESTIONINGLY.
"THAT WAS MY PAGER," SHE SAID. " I HAVE A MICROCHIP UNDER THE SKIN OF MY ARM.
A FEW MINUTES LATER, A PHONE RANG. THE JAPANESE WOMEN LIFTED HER PALM TO HER EAR. WHEN SHE FINISHED, SHE EXPLAINED, "THAT WAS MY MOBILE PHONE. I HAVE A MICROCHIP IN MY HAND."
THE HILLBILLY WOMAN FELT DECIDEDLY LOW TECH. NOT TO BE OUTDONE, SHE DECIDED SHE HAD TO DO SOMETHING JUST AS IMPRESSIVE.
SHE STEPPED OUT OF THE SAUNA AND WENT TO THE BATHROOM. SHE RETURNED WITH A PIECE OF TOILET PAPER HANGING FROM HER BEHIND. THE OTHERS RAISED THEIR EYEBROWS AND STARED AT HER.
THE HILLBILLY WOMEN FINALLY SAID, "WELL, WILL YOU LOOK AT THAT. I'M GETTING A FAX."
