What would you do for $10,000?
A 30 year old woman from Salt Lake City auctioned off her forehead to be tattooed for advertising. After a bunch of bids reaching $999.99, a gambling site finally met her asking price of $10,000.

$10,000???? That's it??? It would take a lot more money to do something so blantantly permanent (and stupid) to myself.

I have no idea how much private school costs these days, but I'd imagine $10K won't get you that far. So what will she do when her son wants to go to college... auction off each facial cheek for $20,000 a piece???

I can understand the mother's willingness to sacrifice everything to give her son a better life, but this is ridiculous!

For all the help this money may immediately give her son, it's not going to help pay for his shrink bills from years of torture for being the kid with a freak mother with a tattoo on her forehead!

What an idiot!

I found this handy little tool on Digg.com

It easily allows you to compose a gmail email with a link to the page you are on (email links). Google should incorporate this into their browser's toolbar!

  Version 6!
After settling on my last design for a while, I decided to give my site a little design change.

The whole design was starting to get crowded with different links and the design was starting to get dark and crowded. I haven't finished everything yet, but I decided to go live with it anyway.

Additionally, this is my first real attempt to use CSS.

So far - so good... I think.

Let me know what you think.

What He Said: 'Brownie, you're doing a heck of a job.'
What He Meant: 'For a former head of the Arabian Horse Association.'

Who: Barbara Bush at the Houston Astrodome

What He Said: 'What I intend to do is to lead an investigation to find out what went right and what went wrong.'
What He Meant: 'We will track down these evildoing Hurricanes. They can run but they can't hide. We will liberate the brave freedom loving Hurricanians.'

Who: President Bush.
What He Said: 'I remember New Orleans as a great town where I used to enjoy myself — occasionally too much.'
What He Meant: 'I could use a drink.'

Who: President Bush.
What He Said: 'If things went wrong, we'll correct them, and when things went right, we'll duplicate them.'
What He Meant: 'One list is going to be longer than the other.'

  ...To the Moon!
I was tempted to post about Duyba, but I figured twice was enough for now...

I was reading the news online, and I found that NASA unveiled a new plan to take us back to the moon by 2018. With an estimated cost of $100 Billion, it's hard to swallow such a hefty pricetag especially with tonight's announcement of Dubya's Hurricane Katrina aid package (which is supposed to rival the cost of even the "war on terror"). By the way, how can you have a war on a feeling?

Gulf Coast recovery and aid for those ravaged by one of the worst natural disasters in our country's history... of course it's a top priority.

An unnecessary long-term occupation in a country that posed no immediate threat... doesn't seem so important now, does it?

Ok, so maybe I didn't get away from posting about Dubya again!

  Short Weekend in Cali
Yes, I know it's already the middle of the week, but I've been rather busy for the past few days (playing realtor). This past weekend my wife and I drove out to California to meet up with my parents for their 15th anniversary. It's unbelievable that it's been that long already. The day we got back (Sunday) was our 6-month-aversary... Ok, it's not really a special occasion, but I guess it's a milestone of sorts.

The drive out to CA and back home was pretty easy and seemed to go by very quickly. Everytime we do that drive it always surprises me how easy it truly is.

We had a great time visiting my parents. The hotel was beautiful and the amenities were excellent. We spent much of our weekend soaking up the free refreshments and snacks on the club level of the hotel!

Overall it was a very nice weekend, but much too short!

There are a few other things that I'd like to blog about, but I really don't feel like it this second. Maybe I'll post again later.

Oh yeah, I've got photos from CA to upload!

  Good Ol Dubya...
President Bush was recently asked his position on Roe v. Wade.

He replied...

"I really don't care how the folks get out of New Orleans."

(ok, so maybe he didn't really say this, but it's still funny!)

What news were you watching Dubya?

  Eye Of The Storm
This is an amazing blog started last week about 12 hours before the Katrina's eye hit land. Two reporters for the Sun Herald stayed behind and reported during and after the hurricane (when their generator and internet connection permitted.) They have some great first-hand thoughts and accounts of what happened to them and around southern Mississippi.

  A Sad Week Revisited
The past week has been crazy.

It began with a huge storm and has resulted in many people in Louisiana and Alabama dead or homeless. A million and one blogs have posted their thoughts about the whole situation and honestly, at this point, I'm somewhat drained by all the emotional news coverage. Each day is filled with another montage set to heavy music and the game of "lets make you cry" proceeds. Don't get me wrong, I feel so badly for these people... No matter who's to blame for the lousy recovery efforts, the first thought needs to be to assist the displaced citizens of Louisiana and Mississippi.

Similar to the days of 9/11, the news has been nonstop Hurricane Katrina (it is the top story these days.) And similar to 9/11, I engrossed myself in the 24/7 news cycle of today's cable networks. At some period, it gets to the point where you need to just change the channel. I sympathize for these people (and we donated money) but I need to stop watching the (bad) news... Isn't all the news bad?

Additionally, Barbara started a new job on last Monday. She's loving it so far, and learning a lot. Unfortunately, any excitement over the new job opportunities were overshadowed by the tragedy down south (she used to live in New Orleans) and the stresses of a new job.

Exactly a week ago we went to see the Dave Matthews Band. We had decent seats, and had a good time. We got there late, and managed to get to our seats about 15 minutes before Dave came on. It was a good show consisting of new songs and very old songs (not much from in between.) It was still very nice to hear some of their "oldies."

I'm not sure if it's because their newer stuff isn't that good or if the whole experience has changed or the depression of the week's current events, but the show just didn't seem as enjoyable as in years past. We'll see what happens next year.

In June we went back to Jersey for the "Relay for Life" cancer walk. Barbara decided to walk in honor of one of her co-workers. Unfortunately, we also found out last week that she passed away. She had been a great Democrat friend of ours during last year's elections, and set us up with some great tickets for a performance of "Miss Saigon." She was such a vibrant lady. Last Friday we went to her memorial service... Another moment of sadness and depression.

And then on Saturday, Chief Justice Rehquist died. I'm not really going to go into my thoughts on this, but this wasn't too much of a surprise. Unfortunately now that means Dubya gets two appointments... But like I said, this wasn't too much of a surprise. Lets see how much of a fight the Dems put up.

On top of all this, I just found out that Gilligan (Bob Denver) died last Friday! He died from complications from treatment he was receiving for cancer. Geez... Cancer is getting everyone!

Geez... What a week!
