Aww... At Last!
Aww... finally, after our quick move and adjustment and the mad dash to NJ for Xmas, I got our computers set up with the full network up and runnin! Finally! It only took me over 2 weeks to get everything working. For some reason my modem and router have trouble sometimes giving me a renewed ip address. Anyway, I figured it out and now I'm back. I'm sure my wifey will appreciate the fact that we have the internets at each of our desktops and wirelessly again. (I know I will!)
So back up a bit...
We just got back from NJ last night for our yearly Christmas trip. Sometimes it spans over two weekends. Sometimes it's for a little less. This year with the holiday being on Monday and not wanting to take off too much time, we opted for the shorter trip.
Sorry everyone for not getting a chance to visit. We were very busy, and I became sick on Christmas Eve. It was the worst. I felt fine until Christmas Eve dinner and then all of a sudden I started feeling very nauseous and queasy. I got through dinner, but then went directly up to bed. I spent the remainer of the night in bed and in the restroom. So needless to say, from dinner on I was out of commission.
Luckily Christmas morning I woke up feeling much better. Not a 100% yet, but much better. After our annual deluge of gifts and wrapping supplies I was starting to feel worn out again, and I laid down for a bit. Christmas day was just tiring with and some body aches.
Christmas was very generous this year, and we received a lot of wonderful things that we will be able to use in the house. (I see a trip to Ikea in the very near future!)
Besides house stuff, I got surprised by my wifey with Eric Clapton tickets on our anniversary night! I can't wait! This is going to be very cool. It's been at least 7-10 years since I've seen him last.
Finally, we were both surprised by
La Nouba tickets for Florida for our trip in January. The seats look like they will be phenominal! My wifey has been to a couple of the Cirque du Soleil shows, but I haven't. So I can't wait for this one as well.
We stepped foot in our house about 11:30 AZ time. It was nice to be back home.
So that brings me to where I began. The internets is back and running in our home.
Woo-hoo!!!!
So hopefully this means that I may be back to blogging more often and hopefully online enough to chat. I've been neglecting my photo uploads as well. So I shall be posting more albums soon. Check back for Photos!
Some things that we've noticed now that we've moved into our new home:
1. We've got a lot of crap. With all our stuff spread out around the house, I have no idea how we fit it all in our townhome before!
2. It's colder at our house than it is downtown. It's only 35 miles, but it's significantly cooler. We have flat, open desert land next to us. So all the wind just whips across the land and our neighborhood gets hit by wind.
3. A faint cow odor from the farm about 5 miles away does tend to make its way to our house (luckily only outside).
4. Even though we have a lot of crap we do still need to buy a bunch of furniture.
5. It's dark outside! After living downtown for 6 months and before that living in another somewhat populated area, our new home is very much on the fringe of civilization. While it's very cool to be able to see the stars and enjoy Arizona's big, open sky, the neighborhood is very dark.
6. Apartment living really sucked! It makes us appreciate our home even more.
7. Even with it being a new home, we have a lot of work to do.
8. I appreciate having a garage. At least the neighbors can't steal our parking spot (like in the apartment parking structure - those rat bastards!)
9. I actually enjoy having some time in the car. When we lived in the apartment downtown, you would turn on the radio and then be at work before 2 songs were over. At least now the drive in gives me time to wake up and think about my day.
10. and finally... So now that we own a home does this make us an adult?
It's Been a While...
(Written and unsuccessfully published on Friday 12/15/06)
It seems as though all my recent posts (past 6 months or so) have begun with me giving excuses for not blogging, not updating my site, or being very busy. Well, once again I will begin by saying that I've been a slacker. I've been very busy.
Hmm... So lets see. What has been going on in my world?
Well, first of all, we just moved into our brand new home! We closed on the 7th and we moved last Sunday. What a pain in the ass! (At least we won't be doing that again for a long time.)
Move in day was a 15 hour ordeal. We started at like 9am and finally got all our stuff moved in around midnight (thanks to Lily & David!) Additionally, we made a trip down to their house to pick up our new television! It is soooo freakin cool! It's so nice to watch tv and have everything the color it's supposed to be and to be able to use the on screen program guide without having to squint! I can't wait to hook up the stereo and dvd player to it.
So now that we're about 35 miles away from work, we've both been shifting our schedules so that we come in later and stay later. This also means that I don't leave work until about 7pm, but it's worth it! We miss all the traffic in the morning and evening. It only takes about
40 minutes to get to and from work. The roads have been pretty good at that hour, but we shall see what happens when traffic accidents occur.
By the time I get home from work and get some food it's already pretty late. So needless to say, we've been pretty slow in unpacking all our stuff. As of right now, most of our boxes are still packed but in their respective rooms. I got the television setup and I got our desk and
computer/internets set up. I think the rest of the stuff will wait until this weekend. Hopefully we can get everything else unpacked this weekend. I really don't want to have to look at any boxes next week.
We get our refrigerator tomorrow - yay! All week we have been living out of a cooler. It's been fine, cause we've just been picking food up on the way home, but the fridge will be good. Next will be a washer and dryer and blinds. We've got the temporary blinds up there now, but
they're slowly starting to become unstuck to the windows.
So beside the house what is new? Well, I finished my coursework for school. I just need to get cracking on my thesis. Maybe I'll get a chance to really start thinking about my thesis over the holidays. I start my self-study "course" with my advisor in February so then I will have 3 months from then to complete my thesis. So I should be done by the Spring... Yay! After that, I'm not sure what I'm going to do. I've got a few ideas, but nothing concrete yet. I'd love to take some more courses in things that I enjoy. Who knows? Maybe I'll take some photography or graphic design courses. That would be fun! Or better yet, maybe I'll go back for another degree! You would think that I'd have enough of this whole school thing!?!?
