No More PBS?
It's amazing some of the shit Dubya tries to pull.
Tonight, the House overwhelmingly voted against a bill by a Colorado Republican. That bill would have elminated federal subsidies to the Corporation for Public Broadcasting...
Are you serious?? You're really trying to kill off PBS???
Luckily, the House decisively voted against the bill. I didn't know this, but it was tried a few years ago (obviously to no avail).
Just so you can remember the lunacy of this one Representative - his name is
Rep. Doug Lamborn, R-Colorado

When Is It Going To End?
My car is in the shop - nothing bad, just to get a bumper replaced (I got rear-ended a few months ago.) So I've been carpooling with the wifey for the past few days. She gets up about an hour and a half before I do, and it's been really making me tired. I should go to bed earlier, but it just never happens. My idea of early most nights is going to bed before 2am... You would think that I would learn by now.
I had my nice, strong Americano first thing this morning, but that seemed like it was only a temporary lift. About an hour after I got to work it seemed like I was tired again (and I've been that way since).
My day so far has been consisted of checking all my news sites, looking at some images online, and overall trying to make myself look busy. Thank god we're carpooling - I have an excuse to leave early!
I saw in the news today that they finally got Chris Benoit's autopsy results back. While they found Testosterone, Xanax, and Hydrocodone they found absolutely no steroids in his system. I'm sure that was a shocker to most people! So many people have been quick to conclude steroids were a contributing factor to the murder of his wife and child. So what does today's findings mean? Does it bring closure to anything?
No, not really.
One of the things that seems slightly unfair is that everyone is quick to blame the dead guy for their deaths. Yes, the obvious conclusion is that he killed them, but is there real evidence that he did it? Perhaps there is, but so far, from what I've read, the only thing their claiming is that bibles were placed next to their body. So why is the dead man automatically being perpetrated as their killer? I guess it's easy to blame the dead guy.

Old School Video Games

Do you remember the old school days of Techmo Bowl on the original Nintendo game console? I think I spent way too many hours playing Techmo Bowl freshman year of college. Between the drinking, playing Nintendo and playing the guitar - no wonder I had crappy freshman year grades!
Well, I was stumbling around on the internet and found a site that allows you to play a ton of old Nintendo games on the PC. Techmo Bowl, Legend of Zelda, Donkey Kong - they have most of the games you can think of.

No Rain
You would think living in Arizona one would not have to worry about rain, but the mountains to the East and North are getting hit with a bunch of storms. Tomorrow a small group of us are going camping near Show Low (3hrs Northeast of Phoenix up in the mountains).
I've been watching the weather and it's looking better as time goes by. I'm just hoping for very minimal rain. At this point there may be some scattered thunderstorms.
Yeah, this should be interesting.
At least I may be able to get some cool photos.
... oh yeah, I guess I should pack my rain gear.

More Than Meets the Eye

We spent most of the day at the movie theater. The rest of our group didn't prepurchase their tickets online and the showtime we wanted 11:20am was sold out. So we switched out tickets and grabbed some lunch.
So we got tickets for the 2:40pm show. Lines had been forming inside all day long for the Transformers showings. We ended up waiting in line for about 2 hours, but we did get perfect seats up in the middle way up and dead center.
This summer's movies have been dissapointing and most filled with hype. Spiderman III was terrible and the third Pirates of the Carribean movie was so uninspiring that we didn't even bother go see it. It'll be a rental.
The following gives my impressions of the movie and may contain some general "spoilers." Overall impressions of Transformers:
The 144 minutes went by very quickly, and I only looked at my watch once
because my large drink (and two beers at lunch) was starting to make me need to visit the lil boys' room.
Most of the film involved some form of destruction. So the reviews were
correct - the move is loud.
The film seemed to start very abruptly and initially I thought I was
watching another movie preview. I think our entire group really enjoyed
the movie. The special effects were incredible. The (eventual) dvd
extra features should be cool for this film.
There were several moments of blatant product placement and GM
C0-branding. I'll give it to GM - this may help transform the public
perceptions of American cars. Could they become cool again? Unless,
domestic car makers revolutionized the hybrid vehicle market (similar to
Toyota's Prius' increasing popularity) who knows what could happen.
Anyway...
Overall they did a decent job at familiarizing newbies to the
Transformers, but it still seemed like they could've done more with the
plot.
The ending was left wide open for a whole series of films to
follow.
We really enjoyed the film. I would highly suggest catching this one
in the theater. It's pretty cool on the big screen and THX sound.
The wifey was even surprised. She wasn't reallyh psyched to go see this one, but she left wanting maybe see it again. I would definitely see it again too... maybe this time we can wait a few weeks.

Sick of This Shit
I've been trying to post to my blog for weeks now, and have been very sparingly successful. If this posting actually makes it, I will be amazed.
This inability to post (via ftp) to my blog has really deterred my posting frequency.
Almost every time I try to republish my blog I get the message:
"Your Publish is Taking Longer than Expected. To continue waiting for it to finish, click here."
I click and it continues to cycle back to the same message. Sometimes if I continue to click the link it eventually publishes.
I really don't want to do it, but I think I may need to change blogging services.
